This series of photographs is a mirror to the suffocating female – a mirror to the society she lives in – We Live In. The veil in which she is taught to live chokes her. If she tries to step out of it, rebel, there are repercussions. The photographs capture the fate, the rebellions, the endless trials of women, both physical and mental. The veil provided by society as a gift to wrap oneself tightens its grip every time a woman accepts this gift. Who is to blame? Who’s the victim and who the culprit? The good and bad, right and wrong, the imposed lessons for life – the moral policing, form the yarn of this veil.
The horrifying incidents taking place every now and then – of abuse, of rape, of sexual violence, are the byproducts of this veil. Cover yourself, suffocate. Uncover, speak up – pay a price. As I say, my photographs are a mirror. It reflects the women of our society – of all society, of our time and of all times. And the veil is as real as the women themselves. Look into the reflection – Act!
